The UK's Most Complete Asbestos Contractor Directory
Asbestos Register UK lists every HSE-licensed asbestos removal contractor in the United Kingdom. Our data comes directly from the CONIAC register — the official Health & Safety Executive list of all companies licensed to carry out asbestos removal, scaffolding, and maintenance work.
Asbestos remains present in an estimated 1.5 million UK buildings, including 75% of schools and 94% of hospitals. Any building constructed before 2000 could contain asbestos materials. When these materials are disturbed during renovation, demolition, or maintenance, they release microscopic fibres that cause serious lung diseases including mesothelioma.
Carrying out licensable asbestos work without an HSE licence is a criminal offence. That's why verification matters. Unlike general trade directories that list anyone who pays, every contractor in our directory holds a verified HSE asbestos licence. We display each contractor's licence number, type, and expiry date so you can verify their credentials before requesting a quote.
Currently listing 379 licensed contractors across 11 regions and 39 counties. Our directory includes 345 standard licence holders (full asbestos removal), 27 scaffolding licence holders, and 7 maintenance licence holders. Data refreshed weekly from the HSE register.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I check if an asbestos removal company is licensed?
Every company in our directory is verified against the HSE CONIAC register — the official list of all licensed asbestos contractors in the UK. You can also check directly at coniac.org.uk. It is a criminal offence to carry out licensable asbestos work without an HSE licence.
What types of asbestos licence are there?
The HSE issues three types of licence: Standard Licence for full asbestos removal work, Scaffolding Licence for scaffolding in asbestos environments, and Maintenance Licence for maintenance work involving asbestos. All three require workers to be fully trained and medically assessed.
How much does asbestos removal cost?
Residential asbestos removal typically costs £950–£3,750 depending on the type and quantity. Garage roof removal runs £900–£1,100 for a standard garage. Artex ceiling removal in a 3-bed house can cost £4,500–£6,500. Commercial projects can exceed £500,000. Always get at least three quotes from licensed contractors.
Do I need a licensed contractor to remove asbestos?
It depends on the type of asbestos. Licensable work (sprayed coatings, pipe lagging, loose fill, insulating board) MUST be done by an HSE-licensed contractor. Notifiable Non-Licensed Work (NNLW) like large-scale textured coatings must be notified to the HSE. Non-licensed work (asbestos cement in good condition, floor tiles) still requires trained workers but no HSE licence.
How do I know if my property contains asbestos?
Any UK building constructed before 2000 may contain asbestos. Common locations include artex ceilings, pipe insulation, floor tiles, garage roofs, and boiler flues. The only way to confirm is through an asbestos survey by a UKAS-accredited surveyor. Never disturb suspected asbestos material yourself.
